DOG FOOD STORAGE

Proper dog food storage is a critical question. Keeping your Pug’s food supply properly stored will maintain the freshness and effectiveness of the vitamins and minerals. Canned or frozen food will, obviously, keep the longest. Frozen food can be stored for up to a year. It should be defrosted in the refrigerator. Some people use the defrost function in their microwave and that will work too. Once defrosted the food should be used in 24 hours. Any leftovers should be covered and refrigerated and used within aday.

Canned food stays freshest the longest, up to three years. All leftovers should be covered and refrigerated and used within 2-3 days.

Dry food should be stored in a cool, dry place where it is secure from mice or insects. After opening it is highly recommended that you place the bag in an air tight plastic container. You should not buy more than a 30 day supply of dry dog food. It will begin to lose its nutritional value after that time.

Don’t confuse the expiration date on the bag with how long the food will stay in prime condition after opening. The expiration date applies to the shelf life of the product before its opened.

Dog food storage is just one consideration in the total dog nutrition picture.
